OwnLocal Acquires Whoosh Traffic

Today we’re excited to announce that OwnLocal has acquired Whoosh Traffic, an Austin-based company that powers SEO reporting for large Fortune 500 companies and small businesses.
Whoosh has been backed by Techstars, 500 Startups, and great Austin investors like Joshua Baer, Bill Boebel, Pat Matthews, Jason Cohen, and Mellie Price. (Several of these investors we share in common.)
While we’ve gotten to know the Whoosh team for the past several years at our shared office space at Capital Factory in downtown Austin, their founder Erica recently expressed her desire to move on and try something else. Since we had used Whoosh’s software to augment our own technology from time-to-time, we thought that their engineering talent and software would find a great home at OwnLocal and our hundreds of local media partners and tens of thousands of small business customers.
What does this mean for Whoosh customers?
- Not much. In the short term, Whoosh will continue to operate as a stand-alone service for enterprise customers.
- Customer service. Because of our much-larger customer service and engineering teams, you will see improved support and have access to OwnLocal’s technology.
- Faster. We’ve already upgraded a significant amount of the technology to make it faster and more scalable, in addition to a suite of automated testing which ensures uptime.
- Upgrades. In the coming months, you’ll see an upgraded platform to leverage for your small business clientele, integration with OwnLocal’s marketing services, and access to a valuable platform for years to come.

What does this mean for OwnLocal customers?
Over the next few months, OwnLocal will be incorporating Whoosh’s technology into our platform and it will be made available to our more than 600 local media partners and their more than 100,000 monthly small business clients.
Expect to see more great data and reporting and even more ways to show your clients how valuable OwnLocal’s platform has been for them. If you’re an OwnLocal customer, you won’t see any immediate changes. But if you have any questions, please reach out to email@example.com.
